Now, time is running out for this trip. Lene and I have now cycled in Japan for two months and have experienced a lot during our days here. Black Camping, given gift to the police, bathed in warm baths despite tattoo (the Japanese mafia is tattooed and not welcome at the public baths, but I did well too nice out so they let me in anyway).
The Japanese are a very decent peoples . They are curious and want very much to help, sometimes a little too much. As a cyclist, only to bend and bow to thoughtfulness in traffic. All run quietly (= slow) and takes tremendous view of us on two wheels. The slopes can be long and steep, and a tunnel through the mountain always comes as a welcome feature.
The food is also different from what we normally eat. One evening, raw fish, the next soba with cow's intestine (I think it was, do not always know what it is, but it tasted really good).
What I will miss most will probably be the hot baths (onsen, with hot water directly from the underworld) that did the trick with a tired body after a day of cycling. I have just stepped up from such and even had time for a fabulous meal (gutted this time) consisting of tempura, vegetables and fish. Now we will sleep well and in a couple of days so we are in Kyoto and then fly home from Osaka.
Sayonara, says Lene and Philip
